Ukrainian-Style Egg Decorating Workshop

Description
Celebrate spring! Learn and practice the traditional Ukrainian technique of decorating eggs, known as “Pysanky”. In this process, beeswax is melted in a stylus tool called “kystka” and applied to the egg, along with richly colored dyes, in layers. The wax is removed at the end of the process, revealing surprises of color and creativity. Materials will be provided, including kystkas, dyes, beeswax, and 2 eggs for you to take home. Raine is a Hastings resident who maintains an art practice as a member of Collective Art Space, a shared studio, in Dobbs Ferry. Although she is not Ukrainian, this practice has been a cherished spring ritual in her family since she can remember. She has led versions of this workshop at CAS since 2017.
